BURLINGTON, MA – DynamicOps, a venture-funded Credit Suisse spinoff, today announced that Man Group, a global company specializing in alternate investments, has selected Virtual Resource Manager (VRM) to manage the company’s virtual infrastructure, which is nearly 50 percent of their IT ecosystem.

During the past year, Man Group, which manages $53 billion in investment funds, has accelerated the pace of virtualization to meet diverse business demands. The company sought to deliver efficient IT services in a consistent and repeatable manner, especially with escalating needs for virtual desktops. Man Group wanted to automate the management of virtual servers and desktops, eliminate the burden of manual tasks to manage the virtualization ecosystem, and gain visibility into virtual machine (VM) resource use and costs.

Man Group required a single virtualization management tool to:

  •  Ensure efficient delivery and management of virtual servers and desktops, including self-service delivery;
  • Manage existing virtualization technologies with a single console;
  • Scale across multiple sites and improve IT utilization efficiency;
  • Integrate with existing IT processes and pre-existing tools;
  • Ensure governance and compliance with business policies.

After considering several options, Man Group chose VRM from DynamicOps. VRM is a single automated solution to manage Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware hypervisors, allowing companies to leverage the hypervisor technology that meets their requirements.

“VRM has reduced the provisioning cycle from days to minutes,” explained Neil Smith, Global Platform Engineering, Man Group. “As we expand to thousands of VMs, this reduction will greatly improve initial service delivery and ongoing management, while lowering operational costs.”

Man Group found that VRM could address its multiple challenges:

  • Improved productivity through VRM’s ease of delivering and managing the virtual infrastructure;
  • Multi-vendor capability to allow Man to lever the advantages of best-of-breed virtualization technologies, both existing from Citrix, VMWare, Microsoft, Linux, and planned in the future;
  • Good fit for its environment; VRM offers single administrative management for both servers and desktops;
  • In addition, Man is planning to use the product’s chargeback capability that works with VM delivery and ongoing management.

VRM’s automation capabilities greatly reduce the time to scale to large deployments, helping organizations like Man Group accelerate breakeven time, while eliminating the need to write and maintain scripts or in-house utilities that are normally required during production roll out phases. VRM’s ability to integrate and abstract third-party technologies allows IT staff to easily add, change, and remove components that enhance the user experience and reduce cost without retraining operation support groups.
